GOVINDA THE LORD OF LOVE YOGA AND DHARMA

Why this book on Lord Govinda, the Krishna? Before we follow the arc of Govinda's earthly life, before his midnight birth in Kamsa's prison, before his childhood in the cowherd paradise of Vrindavan, before his role as the pivotal strategist of the Mahabharata and the philosophical guide of the Bhagavad Gita, we must sit with the most fundamental question that his life poses, and poses with an urgency that no amount of devotional enthusiasm or academic distance can dissolve: Who is Krishna? The person who comes to Krishna as a historical figure of fascinating but ultimately human complexity will receive one set of gifts from his life. The person who comes as a devotee recognising the Supreme Personality of Godhead will receive another. The person who comes as a philosopher investigating the structure of consciousness and its relationship to the universe will receive a third. All three receptions are valid. All three are partial. The fullness of what Krishna is exceeds every one of them and the deepest teaching of his life may be precisely this excess, this inexhaustible quality of always being more than any framework can contain.
