Some years ago, I found myself in a desperate situation. I had my wife and our newborn son to provide for, bills piling up, and no steady income in sight. I sent out job applications after job applications, hoping for a break.

Then, finally, it came-a job offer that seemed like a lifeline and the answer to my prayers. It promised stability, a regular paycheck, and an end to my financial worries. I was over the moon. No more scrambling from one temporary job to another.

But as the days passed, my excitement turned sour. The job demanded more than I had imagined. I was scheduled to work from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday for a week, followed by a shift from 6 pm to 9 am the following week, with the cycle repeating itself. And that wasn't all-I also had to endure a 48-hour shift every other weekend, meaning I had to be at work for the entirety of two weekends each month. That means I was working an average of eighty-four hours a week.

Imagine spending nearly half of my life on a job, with barely any time left for anything else. It felt like I was losing myself, suffocating in a job that drained me of happiness and fulfilment. This was a job I was trained for over six years to do. Imagine that.

But did I quit right away? You guess right. No, I did not leave the job. I felt trapped, like there was no way out. I found myself going back to the job day in and day out. Bills don't pay themselves, after all. So I soldiered on, day after day, paycheck after paycheck, feeling more and more like a prisoner of my own life.

I endured this unfulfilling engagement for five months, but it felt like an eternity. Could you imagine what would have happened if I had stayed for years? What would my life look like?
