Falkirk has a long and intriguing history. The Antonine Wall, built by the Romans to mark the northern frontier of the empire, passed through the town. Its unique location at the junction of the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal led to its prominence during the Industrial Revolution as a major centre for iron casting, which brought prosperity. Today Falkirk enjoys a reputation as one of Scotland's most beautiful towns and it boasts popular tourist attractions such as the Falkirk Wheel and the breathtaking Kelpie statues, both of which complement and build upon its industrial heritage.
