Val and Buddy were just your average couple who had been looking forward to their trip out west for six months. Ever since Buddy had seen that magazine advertisement for the Annual Copper Festival in the back of True West Magazine, they have been making their plans to attend the event. Only taking time away for a vacation about every five years, Buddy was looking forward to finally getting a week away to be a real cowboy, while Val was happy to have a new sewing project. She spent the last six months researching and sewing their 1880's style duds they would wear for the weekend to make sure they got the full event experience. Almost always the blue-ribbon winner at church, Val had her heart set on winning that 1880's costume contest so she could tell all the ladies about it at next month's luncheon. However, after an unexpected dust storm inside the Arizona border forces them off the road just after they took Exit 188{8} to Copper, Arizona, they ended up having a vacation that no amount of planning could have prepared them for.

Switching gears from her two previous memoirs, Rudd takes readers back to the year 1888 for a glimpse of life back in the old west.
