One minute I'm on a Seattle bus, enjoying my Doritos in peace, the next I'm bleeding out and some rando is forcing me to shotgun vampire blood like it's a dare at a frat party. Surprise-now I'm undead. And before I can even wrap my head around the whole "never aging" thing, I'm being thrown into a training program designed to break me... or make me the deadliest thing on two (undead) legs.

It's push-ups, sword fights, and combat drills at dawn. My nails are still flawless, but I've also learned about thirty-seven different ways to kill a man-and that's before breakfast. I'm not just a vampire now, I'm a weapon. A very cute, very dangerous weapon.

Just when I think I can coast as your average immortal with a snark problem, they drop the royal bomb: I'm the future Queen of the Glaciar Roja Coven. Which means politics, betrayal, enemies who want my throne before I even sit on it, and pretending I've totally got this handled.

But here's the truth-whether they crown me, kill me, or kiss my ring, I'm still Valainah Arellano. And I didn't survive death just to play nice.
