Dizzy in Durango

"A woman disappeared," Rachel said. "So what?"

"I still have her bag."

"I suppose she was half your age. Right, Andy?"

"She was in her twenties."

"Like I said, half your age. Women are unpredictable. Especially young women."

"I'm not forty until next June. And that is beside the point."

"Andy, you're making a big deal out of nothing. Again."

Rachel didn't trust my judgment. Maybe she was right. Maybe the woman's disappearance was nothing. But it didn't feel like nothing. It felt like the moment you realize you rolled through a stop sign and you look around to make sure no police officers saw you do it. You're relieved no one was around to write you a ticket, but you still feel wrong.


Some vacations make your head spin!

Andy travels to Mexico to catch up with Rachel, a kindred spirit and fellow mariachi musician. He encounters difficulties on his trip down to Durango, however. While lounging at the pool, a fellow traveler asks Andy to keep an eye on her purse.

She never comes back to claim it.

By the time Andy reaches his destination, the jobless musician can't concentrate on vacationing. When he tries to investigate, instead of finding one woman, he loses another! Before he can discover more about the women's connection, he's saddled with two children who aren't his, an angry ex-girlfriend, and a self-appointed younger brother who is more reckless than he is. No wonder he starts seeing double! But what will he do when the children won't stop hollering? And who will believe they're not really his?

After earning a degree to teach Spanish, D.R. Ransdell took a job in Durango to practice her language skills. She loved living in Mexico, but the poor salaries eventually drove her to Tucson, where she could earn dollars but still speak Spanish. As soon as she arrived, she joined a mariachi band so she would feel at home.
