Transformers are critical components of power systems. A few minutes of power interruption disrupts the entire power grid. Insulation degradation is the principal cause of transformer outages. There are two types of insulation systems used in transformers: liquid and solid insulation systems. However, widely used mineral oil is less biodegradable and less available.
