Anhand eines Ringes, der bis heute erhalten ist, erzählt die Dienerin Guda die Lebensgeschichte ihrer Herrin, der Heiligen Elisabeth von Thüringen. Elisabeth kam im 13. Jahrhundert als ungarische Königstochter nach Thüringen. Dort heiratete sie den Landgrafen von Thüringen. Von klein an lehnte sie die ihr zustehenden Privilegien ab und setzte sich für die Armen und Kranken in ihrem Umfeld ein. Von der Familie ihres verstorbenen Mannes verstoßen erbaute sie von ihrem Erbe in Marburg ein großes Krankenhaus. Dort starb sie mit 24 Jahren, nachdem sie all ihre Kraft in die Pflege aussätziger und verstoßener Menschen gelegt hatte.
