Brad Elmhurst, an attorney for a prominent Upper Keys law firm, goes SCUBA diving on a deep-water wreck with two co-workers. Sometime near the end of the dive, Elmhurst becomes separated from his dive buddies, runs out of air, and drowns inside the wreck.
Following an autopsy and investigations by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, the Medical Examiner rules the death accidental drowning. Elmhurst's fiancé, Alaina Cooper, daughter of one of the law firm's founding partners, isn't convinced.
Seeking help, a mutual acquaintance leads her to private investigator Dominic Rehnquist, who is at first reluctant to take her case but eventually relents to her pleas. What he discovers would be more than motive enough for murder.
