Taken in part from Dr. Whitaker-Riley's personal experience, "Daughter" gives a glimpse into her journey from orphanism to being Accepted, Adopted, Beloved. The orphan spirit is something that many people struggle with, both in the Body of Christ, and in the world. As an adoptee, I personally carried with me from the life I lived before I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, feelings of rejection, worthlessness, fear, insecurity, inferiority, abandonment, and so much more into my life as a born-again believer. I did not know it then, but all of those feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are attached to the orphan spirit. I did not know such a thing existed. While I accepted Jesus as Savior, it was far more difficult to accept Him as Father, and much of that had to do with the trauma surrounding my strained and dysfunctional relationships with my earthly fathers, and yes, that is plural intentionally. What I began to learn and accept, however, is that the value that God, the Father has placed on me is so great that He paid the price of my redemption with the life of His only begotten Son, Jesus, the Christ, to restore me to His family (John 3:16). I am not a spiritual orphan, but a beloved daughter of The Most-High God through the Spirit of Adoption.
