Dance Musicality

Previously published as Dance Musicality: A Biblical and Christian Perspective by Eual A. Phillips, Jr.

The music has your attention. What is shaping your movement?

You can know every step and still wonder whether your movement communicates what you intended. You can feel deeply moved by a song and still need to examine what it teaches. Worship invites us to bring our skill-and the hearts carrying it-before Christ.

In Dance Musicality: Listening, Discernment, and Surrender in Worship, Eual A. Phillips, Jr. brings practical musical instruction into conversation with Scripture, prayer, and the responsibilities of serving others through the worship arts.

Explore how to:

• Recognize beat, meter, tempo, phrasing, and silence, then respond with intention.

• Choose songs thoughtfully and examine the understanding of God they communicate.

• Develop movement that serves a clear message.

• Choose garments that support dignity, freedom of movement, and meaning.

• Distinguish spontaneous praise from prophetic claims that require discernment.

• Receive correction and carry your gifts with love, humility, and accountability.

This third edition brings the teaching and selected prayer material into an integrated Heir & Altar study. Eight chapters include biblical teaching, personal testimony, practical application, reflection questions, prayer, and a closing blessing. A musical glossary and brief ministry review support continued learning.

Written for worship dancers, mime and flag ministers, musicians, and the leaders who serve alongside them, this study can be read individually or used in ministry-team discussion.

The Heir & Altar movement connects identity in Christ with surrender and faithful service. As you learn to listen more carefully, you are also invited to examine what governs the person carrying the gift.

Movement has a voice. Let yours be shaped by Christ.
