Cries Behind Lies

Domestic violence doesn't discriminate based on religion-and the faithful deserve to have a voice in the places they worship. This book both heals survivors' wounds and educates church administration.

The church, Synagogue, temple, mosque, and mandir are places of worship for faithful followers. They should also be refuges for the broken, beaten, downtrodden, and injured. Unfortunately, help in places of worship sometimes feels out-of-reach for domestic abuse victims and survivors.

Cries Behind Lies seeks to accomplish a three-fold goal: launch an inquiry into why the systemic problem of domestic violence has a lack of federal policies; establish ideas, frameworks, and guidelines for how churches can become a domestic violence movement by providing community solutions that advance justice; and provide hope, comfort, and safety to those who are violently abused by domestic abusers.

From Minister Cheryl C. Prescott's perspective, abuse victims should never have to endure the pain and confusion of attending joyous church services, only to have to return to the abuser and ask the question, "God, where are you?"

Within Cries Behind Lies, Minister Prescott explains in detail how churches have the responsibility to help domestic violence victims. Abused followers should not be fearful to advocate for themselves and the help they need. In turn, faith leaders have the onus of doing more than "just praying" for these individuals.
