Committed to Care

Caregiving is a monumental assignment filled with tedious and sometimes arduous tasks. It is difficult to describe what caregivers endure. Being responsible for someone else well-being is taunting. Emotions often run high and can range from love, kindness, and compassion to anger, resentment, and bitterness. The isolation can be nerve-racking. Struggling to provide for a loved one's needs while navigating systems of service often leaves a caregiver frustrated, aggravated, and exasperated. Words alone fail to provide the descriptors that adequately express the caregiving experience. Yet, for the caregiver, there is strength in the journey.

The pages of this devotional are written from the heart of one who understands the caregiving journey. I know the irritation, the agitation, and the sheer exhaustion associated with providing care. I also realize the joy of ensuring that a loved one is receiving excellent care during their most vulnerable times.

This devotional is designed to offer caregivers a moment of quiet reflection and meditation Each of the thirty-one days provides scripture and a hymn from the African American Heritage Hymnal. Since caregivers often only have moments to spare, the goal is to keep the passages brief while offering encouragement. I hope that these times of contemplation and communication with God will provide you with strength and comfort on this caregiving journey.
