It is 1940 and Europe is in a crisis. Adolf Hitler is leading Germany. After annexing Austria and Sudetenland, Germany' s armed forces seized Czechoslovakia and then invaded Poland and Holland as well. Great Britain and France declared war on Germany in support of Poland. Amid a German attack on Norway , The Norwegian king and his government had left their country for London. Meanwhile the Italians declared war on Great Britain and France. The German air force, the Luftwaffe, was attacking Great Britain.

Carlton Fuller, a husband, father lawyer, and common citizen receives a strange phone call from General William Donovan, future director of the Office of Strategic Services. After Donovan reveals he is interested in Fuller because of his German Heritage does Carlton seem at all interested in talking to Donovan. It takes a year for Donovan to recruit Fuller into the most complex and dangerous spy missions of World War ll.
