When high school student Nelson "Sonny" Grey is shot and killed just as the morning bell rings, Sergeant Cat Carmichael and her team are called to investigate his murder.

As they interview his friends, they soon find out that Sonny worked at a local bakery run by his girlfriend's mom, had a wild side in the bedroom, and sold drugs on school grounds.
