Lauralynn's ability to see the fae hidden from the rest of humanity is often more curse than blessing. After years of struggle she's finally made a comfortable life for herself in the fae filled woods of rural Maine, enjoying the somewhat fraught company of her high fae neighbor, Anne. Exiled to the human realm following her father's death and uncle's betrayal, Anne craves the comfort of Lauralynn's company, though her deceptively detached demeanor and early attempts at magical binding might imply otherwise.

Despite their beginnings in mutual trickery, Lauralynn and Anne will do anything to keep each other safe. The unexpected arrival of Tyrnin, King of the Day Court, puts that loyalty to the ultimate test. Believing Anne responsible for recent murders that risk the exposure of the fae, Tyrnin's devotion to the Old Laws demands her execution. Desperate to protect an already weakened Anne, Lauralynn claims a debt to save her, sacrificing her own freedom in the bargain as she's ripped away to the fae realm of Valahein.
