This book focuses on the depiction of leadership in contemporary Nigerian poetry with a view to critically explore why leadership has remained abysmal in the country. Bad leadership has often been credited as the foundation for which a host of challenges - corruption, banditry, kidnapping, environmental degradation - continually manifest. Some critics have credited this leadership failure with the system of leadership practiced in the country while others have argued that the individuals in leadership positions are the reason for failed leadership in the country. In view of this, this book explores selected poems in contemporary Nigeria through the ideological premises of selected tenets of postcolonial literary theory to discover the factors that debilitate effective leadership in Nigeria.
