BETWEEN SHADOWS AND SILENCE

Every life begins with breath, but its true measure is found in the way it weathers silence and shadows. This book is, at its heart, an exploration of how one ordinary life-shaped by discipline, tested by hardship, strengthened by resilience-found meaning through both stillness and struggle.
Silence can be cruel, especially when it takes the form of unanswered questions, broken family ties, or courts of law where words are carefully weighed and often withheld. Yet silence also invites reflection. In my own life, it forced me to search deeply within, to discover strength in patience, and to listen for truths that are easily drowned out by noise.
Shadows, too, are never far. They come in the form of losses-of loved ones, of certainty, of trust. They appear in seasons of waiting, in unresolved disputes, and in the quiet knowledge that justice is sometimes delayed. Yet shadows, I have found, are not always enemies. They can reveal shape and form; they can teach endurance; and when light returns, they help us recognise its brilliance.
My story is not one of triumph without scars. It is, instead, a record of faith, family, work, and a long legal journey that tested loyalty and truth. At the heart of it lies a case of inheritance: two wills left by my late father, a High Court judgment, and an appeal to Singapore's Appellate Division. In that courtroom, silence was as telling as speech, and shadows fell even among kin. My lawyer, a formidable and compassionate advocate, stood for me against arguments framed by Senior Counsel.
