Berliner Slice is a "slice of life" memoir related to the authors journey by road, rail and plane across 5 countries as a young inexperienced lad, from Pakistan to Germany. The journey takes us through Afghanistan, Iran, Jordan, Turkey and Germany (or West Germany as it was then known). The author talks about his adventures, the problems faced, decisions and actions taken and the cooperation and support received from strangers and the experience with the fellow travelers. Observations about the countries of travel and some personal observations and interactions make the story interesting for all kinds of readers.
The author further writes about the period of anxiety and stress during the early period after arrival in Berlin (West), how slowly the problems were overcome, and ultimately setting down to a fairly happy and successful period of life spent in studying and working in Berlin. The many friends and the memorable interactions with them and the last known status about those friends is also provided. A very interesting part of the book relates to life in the walled city of Berlin and the differences between the western and eastern parts of the city and country.
Author has also written about his health issues much later in life as well as included a few of his interesting blogs. The book is not only the authors slice of life in Berlin but is also a slice of history of the cold war period in our history.
