Before The Dawn is the first book of poems written by Ian Murdo Gillanders. Based on his heritage from the Scottish Highlands, Ian captures the diversity, pain and beauty of one of the most stunning areas on earth. Having been diagnosed with sleep apnea at the age of 71, his creative thinking all comes in the wee hours of the morning, and so this first book is aptly named "Before The Dawn".
The poems cover a range of topics, from the beauty of the mountains and bays, to the wildlife and the people, the struggles they have faced, and the history of the area. Being descended from Applecross, Ian's poems have been heavily influenced by his family's time there, as well as his and his wife Janet's time spent in one of the most beautiful corners of our planet.
His poems come from the heart, and with no formal training in poetry writing, this is as raw and heartleft as it gets. The perfect introduction to the wonderful art and a great gift for someone looking for something different.
