Applied Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Psychopharmacological Agents

The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of psychopharmacological agents is a dynamic field of study, with new information being reported on a daily basis. This information includes, but is by no means limited to, the interplay between various psychotropic medications and transporter protein in the CNS. Psychotropic agents interact with various neuroreceptors and various techniques (imaging) are used to identify novel approaches to drug therapy and increase drug penetration into the CNS. Drug interactions between psychopharmacological agents, and between these agents and other medications, are important, as many patients with mental health disorders receive more than one psychopharmacological agent to control/manage their symptoms, and have other non-psychiatric medical conditions that require pharmacological management. While information on the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and drug interactions of psychopharmacological agents is available in large databases like PubMed, these databases can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate.
