Annual of Sexual Intermediaries Volume XV (1915)

Annual of Sexual Intermediaries During the War Period, Volume XV (1915)
Edited by Magnus Hirschfeld Translated by Michael Lombardi-Nash

In the shadow of World War I, Magnus Hirschfeld's Annual of Sexual Intermediaries offers a rare and courageous glimpse into the lives and struggles of gender and sexual minorities during one of history's most turbulent eras. Volume XV, newly translated into English by Michael Lombardi-Nash, captures the resilience of the Scientific Humanitarian Committee as it navigates wartime realities, advocates for human rights, and documents the overlooked contributions of women soldiers on the front lines.

The volume opens with a report on the Committee's activities during the war, followed by a remarkable three-part series on women serving as soldiers-an exploration that challenges conventional narratives of gender and military service. Correspondence from English chairman J. Leo Pavia offers a rare glimpse into international solidarity during a time of global fracture. Administrative records and receipts provide a window into the Committee's inner workings, while the translator's supplement includes a complete table of contents for all 23 volumes published between 1899 and 1923.

With Hirschfeld's visionary editing and Lombardi-Nash's meticulous translation, this edition reanimates a forgotten chapter of queer history, where activism, scholarship, and wartime courage converge.
