An Abstract of North Carolina Wills From About 1760 to About 1800

"An Abstract of North Carolina Wills From About 1760 to About 1800, Supplementing Grimes' Abstract of North Carolina Wills 1663 to 1760" is a vital genealogical reference that provides a comprehensive overview of probate records during a transformative period in American history. Compiled by Fred A. Olds, this work was designed to continue the archival efforts initiated by J. Bryan Grimes, covering the decades surrounding the American Revolution and the establishment of the early Federal government.

This volume offers structured abstracts of wills from numerous North Carolina counties, documenting the names of testators, heirs, and witnesses, as well as the distribution of estates and property. By capturing these legal snapshots, the book serves as an indispensable tool for researchers attempting to bridge the gap in family lineages and community development during the late eighteenth century.

With its focus on primary source documentation, this collection is an essential resource for genealogists, historians, and legal scholars. It provides a unique window into the social fabric, economic conditions, and familial structures of North Carolina as it transitioned from a British colony to a sovereign state. The work stands as a cornerstone of Southern genealogical research, preserving the legacies and personal histories of thousands of early American citizens.
