AMRC CBR Program -To Ensure Equitable & Quality Education for Blind

This book aims to share home grown experiences and best practices of AMRC CBR Program towards promoting and ensuring equitable, quality education for blind and visually impaired children at primary and secondary schools in Southern Ethiopia. It is discussed briefly the existing opportunities in the country, what has been done so far in the field, explores the challenges existing in the education system that in turn put pressure in their schooling. It further underlines the importance of availability of resource centers, organized libraries with books in Braille formats, qualified regular and itinerant teachers in SNE, interpreters, O&M trainers, Braille trainers, educational psychologists and others in the system. Hence the author recommends to create inclusive friendly-welcoming school environments for all children; to remove all barriers from the education system at all levels and supporting parents of these children in livelihood, medical, social and empowering them to exercise their rights through struggling & changing the negative attitudes of the community against PWDs take the lions share in improving their lives at a sustainable manner.
