This book highlights the fundamentals, concepts and principals of the four combined subjects "Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learn". The author focuses on simplifying the terms and the description of the said, and to provide the most needful and useful information. Monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning AMEL are part of day-to-day program management and are critical to the success of all programs, including those operating in fragile environments. Without effective nutrition, we cannot track progress, make adjustments, track unintended program results, or assess the impact on the lives of the people we work with. The feedback system also helps us take action against stakeholders by exchanging information and developing a grievance or feedback mechanism to guide program implementation.
History of AMEL:
The history of Accountability, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (AMEL) spans several decades and has evolved in response to the changing landscape of international development and aid effectiveness. The following is a brief overview of key milestones and developments in the history of AMEL:
Emergence of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E): The origins of AMEL can be traced back to the emergence of monitoring and evaluation practices in the mid-20th century. As development programs and projects became more complex, there was a growing recognition of the need to track progress, measure outcomes, and assess the impact of interventions. M&E methodologies and frameworks began to take shape, providing a systematic approach to assessing development initiatives.
Focus on Accountability: In the 1990s, there was a significant shift toward greater accountability in the field of development. Donors, governments, and civil society organizations increasingly emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the use of development resources. Accountability mechanisms were introduced to ensure that funds were used effectively and efficiently, and that stakeholders were involved in decision-making processes.
Learning and Knowledge Management: In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the concept of learning gained prominence in the field of AMEL.
