Happy with the simple pleasures in life, Abigail tries her best to adjust to the unexpected events, challenges, and changes in direction that come her way. Although most of these are beyond her control, she tries to find the positive in each moment.

Once the ever-dutiful daughter, Abigail is known for her love of children. At an early age, she begins work as a nanny. When her cousin delivers twins, Abigail is summoned to leave her current position and to care for the newborn twins. After Mr. Richter explains that he wants the most qualified person for his twins, Abigail promises to always try her best. Even though she keeps an ever-watchful eye on the twins, her roles of cousin and of governess are often conveniently crossed according to her relatives' selfish desires.

Babysitting the twins while on a family business trip, Abigail meets a handsome man, Beau. He is a true Southern gentleman. Their paths ahead change their lives more than they could ever have guessed. Along the way, is it possible to make a trusted friend or two?

Her upbringing may not have prepared her for her journey, but she believes and hopes for good to always conquer over evil. Throughout her story, Abigail ponders the reasoning of the Civil War and the intolerances of others. Yet, she holds onto a desire to find a place of love and acceptance.
