Zaheer GhaziPuri had equal power over poetry and prose, due to which excellent works of poetry and prose came from his pen. Due to his special interest in ghazals from the very beginning, Zaheer GhaziPuri can be called a popular poet of ghazals who was also a traditional teacher of ghazals. He founded a new genre 'ghazal-like' and made important achievements in promoting the history and editing of Urdu literature through his research and critical books. Apart from being a prolific poet, he has been renowned as a reliable researcher and unique critic.

ظہیر غازی پوری کو نظم و نثر پر یکساں قدرت حاصل تھی جس کی وجہ سے ان کے قلم سے شعر و نثر کی عمدہ تخلیقات وارد ہوئیں۔ ظہیر غازیپوری کو شروع سے ہی غزلوں سے خصوصی دلچسپی کے باعث وہ غزلوں کے ایسے مقبول شاعر کہلائے جو غزل کے روایتی استاد بھی تھے۔ انہوں نے ایک نئی صنف 'غزل نما' کی بنیاد رکھی اور اپنی تحقیقی و تنقیدی کتابوں کے ذریعے اردو ادب کی تاریخ اور تدوین کو فروغ دینے میں اہم کارنامے انجام دئے۔ وہ پرُگو شاعر ہونے کے علاوہ قابل اعتبار محقق اور منفرد نقاد کی حیثیت سے شہرت کے حامل رہے ہیں۔
