Their journey takes a tragic turn when a poisonous snake causes Lyra's first death. A monk named Kenta, who foresaw their arrival, performs a fiery ritual that brings Lyra back to life. This rebirth awakens her Kitsune essence, but it comes at a profound cost: one of her Kitsune tails is a mere shadow of itself.

After waking two weeks later, Lyra begins training with her pack and fellow shifters to master her newfound abilities. On their subsequent journey to find her mother's shrine, she faces new challenges, overcomes a telepathic bear, and shares a moment of affection with Aric. Upon finding the shrine, Lyra gets a moment of clarity from her mother, who explains that she put Lyra on Atheria to save it. But this reunion is cut short by a brutal attack by a vampire named Rose, which ends in Lyra's second death.
