A Right Hootenanny

This short story is a light-hearted, cosy tale set in the countryside, following a quietly independent woman whose orderly rural life is turned upside down by an unexpected arrival: three very different owls in urgent need of a new home.

What begins as a simple interruption quickly becomes a comic negotiation. The owls are picky, know what they want, convinced they know best, while friendly. The lady is practical, sceptical, and opens her mind to a new adventure. As she tries to balance her routines and husband with the owls' demands, the story plays with misunderstandings between human logic, animal certainty and a meeting in the middle.

Through sharp observations and gentle absurdity, the book explores themes of hospitality, coexistence, and the chaos that often comes from rural and married life. The humour comes from exaggerated owl personalities, and the contrast between the calm countryside and the surprisingly dramatic search for the "perfect" home - ending with warmth, compromise, and a renewed sense of connection and friendship in the most unexpected of places.
