A Gambit for Power

What does it mean to be a superhuman? For Martin McDavis, it means helping people in need and stopping those who willingly sacrifice others for their own gain. As Quarterback, his priority of minimal violence was recently challenged when a powerful enemy vowed to kill him at any cost. This enemy left a trail of destruction and murder and could only be stopped when Quarterback crossed a line he never wanted to cross.

A biochemist, studying his own superhuman blood, makes a discovery that may finally uncover the secrets of his kind. Through research and experimentation, this biochemist created what was to become a perfect asset to the world, but instead was corrupted to become a threat to all who cross its path.

A person thought lost to history returns on a mission to use Quarterback's blood while Martin McDavis' life becomes increasingly complicated when his project to master nuclear fusion achieves something once thought impossible: stable power production.

Newly-minted Ph.D. Dr. Martin McDavis must balance his work as well as his superhero identity, Quarterback, as forces from the past align with modern threats that place all of Southern California at risk. Can Quarterback stop the danger, or are the forces too much for a single superhero?
