In the world of Dread.exe, sometimes the game is playing you.

For twelve-year-old Riley, old video games are an escape from the boring town of Oak Lake Hollow, where he feels more like a background character than a hero. His world glitches when he discovers a mysterious, unmarked cartridge at a garage sale:

Graveyard Glitch. Scrawled on the faded label is a single, ominous logo: Dread.exe.

The strange old man who sells it offers a cryptic warning: don't play it after midnight, because the code has a mind of its own.

Naturally, that's a challenge Riley and his tech-savvy best friend, Natalie, can't resist. But this is no ordinary game. As the clock ticks past midnight, the console sparks, the screen flashes an impossible message, and their reality dissolves into a vortex of static and pixels.

Riley and Natalie are pulled into the machine, their bodies rebooted as 8-bit sprites in a world gone wrong. They've been installed into the Glitched Graveyard, a terrifying level where the sky stutters like a broken monitor, tombstones flicker with corrupted code, and the malevolent Lord Necrobyte reigns.

The command is simple: Play his game or become a permanent part of its code. To survive, Riley must navigate deadly levels like the Bone Maze and the Ghost Swamp, fight horrifying bugs, and push back against a glitch that threatens to consume not just his digital avatar, but his memories and his very soul.

But in the world of Dread.exe, hitting 'pause' is not an option, and escaping the game might just be the most dangerous level of all. Because when the screen turns off, the terror doesn't always stay behind.
