Transparent City

This novel is a vivid portrayal of post-war Luanda society, a city that has become a double-edged sword: one side representing the contradictions of its democratic system, its rosy dreams of renaissance, and its false hopes of investing in large-scale projects like oil extraction and water privatization, all while officials in power are corrupt. The other side is embodied by the residents of a prominent apartment building, where a group of families, each with their own story and aspirations, live united by a single shared goal: to feel their humanity and their true belonging to this country amidst the decay and chaos they experience. Their lives are interwoven with a series of activities, encounters, and conversations-sometimes humorous and lyrical, sometimes satirical and poignant. All of this unfolds within a framework of magical realism, where imagination and reality intertwine to reflect the vast chasm between the two faces of Angolan society and the simultaneously decaying and modern state of its capital.
