Talking about Arab theater raises several preliminary problems that must be cleared, and the first of these problems comes from the fact that theater is not one of the traditional literary arts, which the ancient Arabs knew and left us with a heritage similar to what they left in other literary arts, such as the arts of praise, satire, lamentations, poetry, maqamat, sermons, and so on. However, this phenomenon does not exempt the speaker of theater from searching for what this art might have from distant historical origins among the ancient Egyptians or among the Arabs.
