Sentence Processing Research

Language, as an advanced cognitive activity, has always attracted researchers from many fields, including linguistics, psychology, computer science, neuroscience, and other fields, with topics such as its knowledge system, organization, and cognitive processing process. Focusing on sentence-level representation and real-time understanding, this book systematically compiles and explains the core topics of sentence processing research, the development and evolution of theoretical models, and provides an outlook on research trends. The book consists of nine chapters. The first chapter provides an overview. Chapter 2 introduces the experimental design, paradigms and data interpretation methods of sentence processing research. Chapters 3 to 5 introduce early, middle, and recent theories of sentence processing research, focusing on the comprehension process of ambiguous and complex sentences, respectively. Chapters 6 to 8 illustrate how researchers in various fields have explored the sentence processing process from different aspects from the perspectives of cognitive resources, neural bases, semantics, and part-of-speech processing, respectively. Chapter 9 deals with the dynamics of comprehension and output integration and the current status of Chinese sentence processing research, and gives an outlook on future research trends.
