Scarlet

Scarlet is a Multi-Genre work that combines prose narrative and poetic interludes to explore the journey of its titular trans protagonist Scarlet as she grapples with religious and sexual trauma on her path to satanic apotheosis, assisted by three demons who lead her on a mind-breaking journey through her past, present, and future. Part chapbook, part novel, part autobiography, Scarlet is more than worthy to take its place among the queer literary canon. In other words: It's trans, satanic, and horrifying in detail. This book is, in essence, what I've deemed a pseudo autobiography with a horror bent: it is an exploration of my own traumas, through the lens of its protagonist's own journey toward satanic apotheosis, dealing with subjects such as alienation, sexual assault, the hegemony of bigoted Christianity, and the power of the infernal feminine. Obviously not a book for your prudish grandmother. It's gruesome, vivid, and phantasmagoric.
