Numerous studies have examined poets' imagery through and in language, that is, the way they use language to create images, but not so the imagery about language itself.The aim of this book is to scrutinize how a collection of poets from all over the world have imagined and visualized language, in order to seek new light on the ancient question: 'What is language?'As the book was inspired in the context of celebrating the centenary of the University of Wales Press, the text was chosen as it was compatible with two of the main themes of the Press's publications.On the one hand, it deepens our understanding of the unique culture and language of Wales, and on the other broadens our appreciation of European and world culture.In a unique combination covering examples of poems in both threatened and mainstream languages.
