Since the introduction of Systemic Functional Linguistics in the late 1970s, the functional linguistics community in China has explored various aspects of the theory and written frequently, but there are few books that systematically study both English and Chinese languages from the same theoretical perspective. This series of books has two sub-volumes for each topic, describing the English and Chinese languages respectively, in the hope that it will be beneficial to readers in the English-speaking academic community as well as in the Chinese-speaking academic community, and also to scholars engaged in the comparative study of the two languages. In addition to focusing on the research of discourse analysis in the field of Systemic Functional Linguistics, it also provides an introduction to discourse analysis in other fields of study, with the aim of presenting a full picture of discourse analysis in Chinese. The book contains 10 chapters, which describe and discuss articulation, coherence, modes of information organization, and discourse structure, as well as elaborate on the theories and methods of critical discourse analysis, and the theories and applications of multimodal discourse analysis. In order to deepen readers' understanding of chapter contents, each chapter is followed by practice questions, and reference answers are provided at the back of the book. Combining knowledge, standardization and application, this book aims to provide professional, systematic and practical guidance on Chinese discourse analysis for the majority of senior undergraduates, graduate students, teachers and language researchers majoring in English and Chinese.
