Suzanne O'Gorman pens a short but poignant memoir of her unusual childhood, growing up during the Second World War. Her father, Jack Randolph Charles, held a job shrouded in secrecy, which takes the family all the way to the United States of America. Back in England when the war ends, Suzanne moves to London and trains for a career she did not choose. After several jobs, she seizes the opportunity to go to Africa, where she puts down roots and finds a place she can finally call home.
